Alaina Hunt is this year's 1st Place Winner for the Girls 10-11 division of the 2021 Herkimer Elks Lodge Hoops Shoot. She beat out students from Richfield Springs, Herkimer, West Canada and Poland this past weekend at Herkimer College. Congratulations, Alaina!!

Any 7th or 8th grade girl that is playing Modified Basketball at ODY please see Mrs. Owen to pick up paperwork that needs to be completed before the first practice.

Mr. Barkman had the opportunity to help out a group of Agriculture advisors the weekend of Dec. 3rd and 4th in cutting lumber up at Camp Oswegatchie. The pictures show a saw mill that had stamps from 1903 on it and clearly could use some modern day safety shields and guards. While we don’t have students help with its operation, they do benefit from its usage. Many of the buildings were built from wood on the property, and even in some of the newer fancy buildings we have incorporated wainscoting from our mill and planer. Ag teachers harvest the trees and cut them into usable lumber which keeps costs down at camp and allows us to use some vintage equipment most people only see in books. Mr. Barkman’s back told him it was a good workout also. :-) The Oswegatchie Educational Center in Croghan, New York is nestled on 1200 acres of wooded land within the Adirondack Park. Oswegatchie was bought in 1946 and is owned and operated by the New York FFA Leadership Training Foundation, Inc. The center operates as a youth camp during the summer months and is open throughout the year as an educational and recreational retreat center. Mr. Barkman took 9 campers this past summer and hopes to visit this spring as well. Summer camp is an annual FFA activity, so keep an eye out for more information this spring to send your campers.

Particularly, the survey will provide information regarding programs for promoting social and emotional competencies and preventing bullying and other behavior problems. For example, scores on the School Climate Scale might indicate if a school needs to devote greater attention to important areas of school climate such as teacher-student relations, student relations, school safety, clarity of expectations, fairness of rules, and teacher-home communications.

There is an active gun threat to schools that originated in Chenango County. All law enforcement agencies are involved in an active investigation at this time. We are maintaining our normal security measures and ask that everyone is being extra observant and vigilant. Thank you and have a nice weekend.

RSCSD currently has 4 staff and 5 students out with COVID. Otsego County and Herkimer County 7-day positivity rate is 9.1 & 10.3%, respectively. Please have your student tested, if they are showing symptoms and do not send them to school. Thank you.
