Students Attend MVCC Theater Workshop through BOCES

Posted Date: 11/04/25 (2:14 PM)

Students from eight local high schools, including RSCS, recently visited a Mohawk Valley Community College theater class for a Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Honors Program workshop. Our own Dylan, Aubrey and Emmet were accompanied by RSCS music teacher and theater director, Jake Shipp.

“Workshop participants joined Tennille Knoop, MVCC theater instructor, in an engaging day of theater activities,” Herkimer BOCES Honors Program Coordinator Deborah Schoff said. "Tennille's energetic, upbeat personality drew students in as they practiced teamwork, voice and speech, memorization and playwriting skills.”

MVCC Dean of Art Todd Behrendt helped organize the on-campus workshop on Friday, Oct. 24 for students in grades 9-12 from Central Valley, Dolgeville, Frankfort-Schuyler, Herkimer, Little Falls, Poland, Richfield Springs and West Canada Valley.

The Herkimer BOCES Honors Program is open to students in Herkimer BOCES component school districts and is designed to support the potential of students in grades 3-12 who have above average interests and abilities in a particular area. Programs allow for interaction with like-minded peers. Students learn by engaging in educational activities with presenters who are noted in their field. Exploration and programs provide for different learning styles and include topics in the arts and sciences
as well as literature and history. Ongoing evaluation of all programs by teachers and students assures
their relevance and quality.
