SOPHOMORE YEAR TIME LINE

PLAN FOR A SUCCESSFUL YEAR AHEAD......

  • Develop a S.M.A.R.T. Goal

  • Enjoy school! Not only as a prelude to college but as a place where you are
developing as a student and as a person.

  • Establish strong study habits and time management techniques. Check out Tips and Habits under the "Academic" tab above on the left.

  • Meet with your counselor to discuss your plans for after High School.

  • Review your schedule to make sure you're enrolled in classes that will help you prepare for your career of interest.

    • Use College Search and the Course Planner in "Naviance" to find out the required courses and tests for colleges that you might be
      interested in attending.

    • Look at the courses that will be available next year and see what the pre-requisites are. The course descriptions from last year are located in the "Academic" section of this website.

  • Start a calendar or planner with important dates and deadlines.

  • Keep up your grades.

  • Get involved with extracurricular activities and update your resume in Naviance.

  • Go to college fairs in your area and begin visiting different types of campuses to see what types of environments you are comfortable in.

  • Look for a great summer opportunity - job, internship, summer camp or volunteer position. A list of Local Summer Enrichment Opportunities can be found at the bottom of this page. More National and Regional ones can be searched in the Naviance database.

  • Attend the Career Summit. Take time on your own to research various careers in Naviance. Ask friends and family what they pros and cons of their careers.

  • Talk to your counselor to find information about colleges, careers and scholarship planning. Review catalogs and computerized college-search programs.

  • Take a look at the local scholarships available to our seniors. These are on our website under the "College and Career Support" section of the website. Make sure you are getting the types of grades and experiences you need to be a competitive candidate.

  • Get involved! Participate in extracurricular activities and investigate new activities - add them to the list you hopefully started your freshman year.
