A few students from Mrs. Simpson's 1st grade class, chose topics of interest to research. Ms. Greenman, our librarian, put together book bags for each student's topic. Students had to read their books and write 3 or more sentences for each book about things they found cool/interesting or new facts they learned. Once students completed their research, Mrs. Shaffer, our technology specialist, taught and assisted the students how to present their research on an iPad app called Educreations. Canvas, Castle Learning, and Google Drive, oh my! Do you ever wonder what these tools are and how your child is using them for learning? Our teachers and students use these powerful resources to communicate, collaborate, and manage paperless workflows. If you would like to learn more about the online platforms being used in the 1:1 laptop program at RSCS, join us on April 8th for a demonstration of these tools and more! Mrs. Young's 6th grade math students had a successful second year of programming NAOmi. This year Laurie brought Patrick too. The students programmed the robots to walk through all 4 quadrants of a coordinate grid on the floor, ending in the center. Once they reached the center, they could program the robot to do and say whatever they chose. Click the link above to check out the videos of the finished projects and photos from our 3 days of programming.

Students now have access to SAT test prep material for free through the school. They can access Method Test Prep through their Castle Learning accounts. Method Test Prep is set up as a 20 week checklist where students work approximately one hour per week. However, since it is completely self-paced, students may work through the material faster or slower. This opportunity is a great way for students study for the SATs and increase their scores.
